Personal Media Usage
Keeping track of my personal media usage was something that I was very excited to do. The different types of media are a big part of my life today and I am aware that I spend a lot of time using them, just not very aware of what media I spend the most time on daily. Even though I would prefer to not admit it, I am addicted to both my phone and maybe even my laptop. Some people might say it is a bad thing, that I am wasting my creativiness on my phone when I could have done that somewhere else. Personally, I do not think that it is a bad thing because I am browsing through the medias and constantly finding new ideas and inspiration for all kinds of things.
The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is to check the notifications that I have received on my phone during the night. I am from Sweden so there is a difference in time compared to over here so I usually wake up to a few messages on WhatsApp from friends and family that I always answer in the morning before I leave my bed. If I wake up when I am supposed to wake up and don't snooze my alarm, I also take time to go through some of my social media accounts like Snapchat, Instagram, and TikTok. If I wake up too late then I am ending up only answering the text messages on WhatsApp and after that I rush out of bed to get ready for the day as I am listening to some music.
Ever since I was very young I have always loved listening to music and music has always been a big part of my life in many different ways. I am using Spotify as the main app for music, and sometimes SoundCloud, and I am listening to music every minute of the day when I am able to. If I am doing homework I am focusing better if I am having my Airpods in while listening to music. For the moments when I have to focus, I prefer to listen to slower songs, which most of the time are songs by Shawn Mendes since they are calm enough for me to focus on my homework at the same time as I'm listening to music. And for the other times of the day if I am working out by myself or going for a walk I prefer more upbeat and happy songs. During the morning when I am getting ready for either my first class of the day or getting ready for tennis practice or a workout with my team, I prefer to listen to happy songs to start my day in a happy mood.
A more recent app I have been using a lot lately is BeReal. I am enjoying the app since it is the only social media without any filters and just filled with people taking photos of what they are doing in that exact moment as the notification goes off. For me the app is a very good way of staying in touch with my friends back home to see what they are doing daily. I am usually very busy while I am here since I am practicing a lot and also have a lot to do with homework and having the social media role.
Since I am the current social media manager for the tennis team I am creating graphics to post for our social media. I am using Adobe Photoshop on my laptop for creating the graphics and it usually takes a couple of hours for me to create one. I would say one graphic can take up to 4 hours to create. For the video-edits that I am creating for the social media accounts, I am using Adobe Premier and that is also taking a couple of hours to finish an edit.
To summarize, during the day I am using my phone an average of 6h a day. The top list of my most used apps is Snapchat, TikTok, WhatsApp, Instagram, Candy Crush, and BeReal. I found it interesting that the difference in hours between between Snapchat and Tiktok is more than half of the hours. Other than my phone I am also using my laptop and my Apple Watch a lot during the day.
