1. Columbia County jobless rate up half-percent in July - According to a preliminary county by county report released in early September, the unemployment rate in Columbia County has gone up by 0.5%. The report is showing that Columbia County had a labor force of 8,296 persons with 7,830 employed and 466 unemployed. Which is different from June's labor force of 8,760 with 8,312 employed and 448 unemployed. Seven neighboring Southwest Arkansas counties showed an increase in the jobless rate from June to July. 2. Little Rock listed among America's most depressed cities, data shows - Some areas of the U.S are having more incidences of depression than others. Research shows that Little Rock is in the top 15 most depressed cities in the U.S. Other cities in the list is Fayetteville, Rogers, and Springdale. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that close to 4.7% of adults (18 years and older) are going through some kind of depression. CDC also states that there were about 45,979 deaths by suicide in 2020. (Kark)

This New Social App Is Boring, in a Good Way - The social media BeReal is once a day, at an unpredictable time, notifying its users that they have two minutes to post a pair of pictures, and the only way to see your friends photos is to post a photo yourself. You have the option to react on your friends' BeReal photos by using the "RealMoji" which is a selfie reaction, visible to all of your connections. The app itself doesn't ask for much and it is a way of returning to rawness and authenticity. (NY Times)
4. Trump calls Biden 'enemy of the state' during 1st rally since Mar-a-Logo search - The former President Donald Trump took the stage in Pennsylvania for close to two hours. During his speech he responded to the raid on his home last month and President Joe Biden's remarks earlier this week. Trump said "The shameful raid and break-in of my home Mar-a-lago was a travesty of justice. The FBI and the Justice Department have become vicious monsters". Trump spent the majority of his speech focused on his own issues, which was mainly with the FBI, the Department of Justice, fellow Republicans and Joe Biden. "Joe Biden came to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to give the most vicious, hateful and divisive speech ever delivered by and American president....He's an enemy of the state" Trump said in his response to Biden's remarks earlier this week. 5. Chinese cities rush to lockdown in show of loyalty to Xi's 'zero-Covid' strategy - An amount of 70 Chinese cities have been placed under either full or partial lockdowns related to Covid and has impacted more than 300 million people. Since middle of August this year 74 cities have imposed lockdowns that cover entire cities, districts or multiple neighborhoods, according to CNN's calculations. China is insisting that the "zero-Covid" method is saving lives. Some health officials have cited the relatively low elderly vaccination rate and inadequate rural healthcare as hurdles to relaxing restrictions, but Chinese public health experts say political factors have played an outsized role, too. 6. Serena Williams Willed her Way to a Glorious Goodbye - Serena Williams, the American tennis legend, played her last match at the U.S. Open and probably the last match of her career. Williams kept her competitive spirit throughout the match against Ajla Tomljanovic, even when Tomljanovic was about to serve to win the match at 40-30 with a 5-1 lead in the third set. She saved a total of five match points and stated after the match was done, "I've been down before. I think in my career I've never given up. In matches, I don't give up. Definitely wasn't giving up tonight". After a forehand missed to the net, it was decided, the tennis legend's career was over. She thanked her fans and her family and mentioned a loving message to her sister Venus, saying "I wouldn't be Serena if there wasn't Venus, so thank you, Venus". (NY Times)

'Twilight' star Peter Facinelli and fiancée Lily Anne Harrison welcome 1st baby - The "Twilight" star Peter Facinelli and his fiancée, Lily Anne Harrison, welcomed their first child together on Labor Day. The lucky couple shared the great news of their newborn baby by posting a photo of the baby grasping his finger on Instagram. The couple got engaged in January 2020 and this is their first child together. (Today)
8. A shipment of baby wipes turns out to be $11.8 million worth of cocaine - The border protection officers discovered more than 1,500 pounds of cocain hidden in a place you would never expect it: in a shipment of baby wipes. Last Friday the findings were made at the Laerdo-Colombia Solodarity International Bridge which is located by the U.S.-Mexican border. An officer stopped a tractor-trailer bringing in a shipment of baby wipes for a secondary inspection. The drug sniffing dogs made the discovery of totaling 1,532 pounds. (NPR)

Dolly Parton launches 'Doggy Parton', a pet apparel collection - The beloved country singer Dolly Parton has now launched a pet clothing and accessories line which she claims will support an animal rescue organization. The line features a lot of different things like cowgirl dresses, gingham shirts and toys. At the moment the products are only available on Amazon but an online shop is currently in the works. (NPR)
10. Canada police hunt remaining suspect in stabbing attacks - Canadian police are hunting for the remaining suspect in the stabbing deaths of 10 people in an Indigenous community and nearby town in the Saskatchewan province, after finding the body of his brother amid a massive manhunt for the pair. A 31 year old man was found dead Monday near the stabbing sites and the officers believe his brother and fellow suspect is injured and on the run. (ABC News ).
11. Coast Guard suspends the search for 9 missing after a plane crash in the Puget Sound - A floatplane crashed in the waters of Puget Sound northwest of Seattle and the coast guards suspended the search Monday afternoon, looking for nine people who were missing after the crash. The 10th person of the crash was recovered on Sunday after the crash was reported at 3:11 p.m. The coast guard learned with the seaplane company's owner that there was two planes taking off on Sunday and the owner of the flight company was aboard one of the flights. The owner told authorities he saw the other plane divert slightly off course and he tried to make radio contact but wasn't able to. (NPR )

American Frances Tiafoe stuns Rafael Nadal to make US Open quarterfinals - The American tennisplayer Frances Tiafoe ended Nadal's 22-match Grand Slam.winning streak on Monday and reached the US Open quarterfinals for the first time. This is by far Tiafoe's biggest victory of his career and he says himself "It's something to tell the kids, the grandkids: 'Yeah, I beat Rafa',". He remained his cool throughout the match and ended off as the unexpected winner and is now through to the quarterfinals of the US Open. (ESPN )
13. Farmers push for immigration reform to counter labor shortages and rising food prices - Farmers all over the United States are joining a push for national immigration reform that they say could ease labor shortages and lower food prices as surging production costs continue to rock agriculture industry. The farm operators say the Farm Workforce Modernization Act will give them a stable, reliable workforce by creating a path to citizenship for undocumented agricultural workers and reforming the seasonal farmworker visa program. 14. Pakistan floods: Officials struggle to stop biggest lake overflowing - Pakistan authorities are struggling to contain their biggest lake from bursting its banks after a last-ditch attempt to drain it failed. The water levels in Machar Lake, in the southeastern Sidnndh province, had risen to a dangerously high level after days of record monsoon rains. The attempt to breach it displaced up to 100,000 people from their homes. On Monday, the minister of the Province told Reuters the water level of the lake had "not come down". (BBC )
15. Shein horoscope t-shirt leaves people in hysterics as 'nobody spell-checked it' - The popular clothing line Shein produced a zodiac cocktail t-shirt. Nicki Foster ordered one of those but received a shirt with 4 miss-spelled zodiac signs and she used her TikTok platform to share her new garment camed littered with errors, with the caption 'always check the spelling on your Shein items before you buy them'.
